It was the capital of the Seljuk Empire, which is why it’s often called the “Capital of the Seljuks.” Konya is also the home of the world-famous philosopher and poet, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi . Every December, thousands of people visit Konya to attend the Şeb-i Arus ceremonies, which commemorate Rumi’s life and teachings.
